In 1951, Carmen Pacheco Rodríguez was born in Linares, baptized Carmen Linares by one of the great voices of flamenco, Juanito Valderrama. His passion for singing was born at an early age through the influence of his father, Antonio Pacheco, a guitar enthusiast from a mining town. After living in Ávila for several years, she met the man of her life, TVE journalist and flamenco singer Miguel Espín García, settled in Madrid in 1968. There he received training from great masters such as Juan Varea, El Gallina, Pepe el de. la Matrona y la Perla de Cádiz.
He began his career as a singer in 1980, participating in national festivals with Juan and Pepe Habichuela, sharing the stage with great flamenco figures such as Camarón de la Isla, Enrique Morente, Menese, Lebrijano and José Merce.
Already in the 90s, he was distinguished by albums such as Antología de la mujer, which is considered one of the 10 best discos in the history of flamenco.
Throughout his career, he has translated Spanish poets such as Lorca, Juan Ramón Jiménez and Miguel Hernández, appearing on prestigious international stages such as Carnegie Hall, Teatro Colon, Sadler Wells and Cité de la Musique. He is recognized as the ambassador of flamenco all over the world.
Among his most important awards are the National Music Award, the Gold Medal of Fine Arts, the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, and the Latin Grammy. In addition, he was chosen as the favorite of the city of Linares in 2023 and received the II Premio de las Artes “Florencio Galindo” in the city of Ávila last October 17.
