El País announced this Wednesday that ING has decided not to broadcast advertising spots during the programs of Iker Jiménez en Cuatro, preserving its agreements with the rest of Mediaset's programs. La Federación de Asociaciones de Periodistas de España (FAPE) supported the bank's decision.
ING's decision comes in response to recent controversy over the involvement of journalists in its programs, particularly due to the spread of misinformation that has fueled widespread public debate.
The main reason for this decision was the filing of a report on the alleged bodies found in the Bonaire park in Valencia, which was denied by the National Police.
Although Iker Jimenez apologized for his mistake, the controversy has not subsided. Even public figures such as Ana Pastor, El Gran Wyoming and other laSexta figures have openly criticized the team leader for giving voice to baseless theories.
Mediaset confirmed to El País that, despite what has happened, it is not currently among its plans to cancel any of the programs presented and directed by Iker Jiménez.
Sin embargo, Federación de Asociaciones de Periodistas de España (FAPE) sources supported the decision taken by ING.
They understand that this is a private company that believes their right to truthful information is violated and cannot support the media under these conditions.
Desde la FAPE insistent en que comprenden esta reaction; remember that they openly condemned this type of attitude that la disinformación de la ciudadanía. It is necessary to mention the necessary actions to fight positively against disinformation.
