Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' duet, “Die With a Smile,” becomes the fastest song to reach a billion streams on Spotify.
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' duet, “Die With a Smile,” has become the fastest song to reach a billion streams on Spotify. The song was originally released as a single in August, debuting at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and spending eight weeks at #1 on the Billboard Global 200.
Since then, subsequent versions released include an acoustic rendition and a “Live in Las Vegas” edition coming out in October. The track was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
“We like to call that legendary behavior,” said Spotify in a moment Instagram post.
Mars and Gaga first debuted the song live at the former's show at Los Angeles' Intuit Dome, followed by a performance a few weeks later during his residency concert at Las Vegas' Park MGM. The song quickly broke Miley Cyrus' “Flowers” recordset last year.
“Watching fans from all over the world celebrate this music has meant so much to me, to see the words of the song touch your heart and the video provoke this huge wave of dancing and fun is beautiful to watch, and I'm so grateful ,” wrote Gaga in an Instagram post to thank fans for their support after the Los Angeles performance.
Lady Gaga now has eight Pop Airplay #1 hits to her name, while Bruno Mars has 10, which ties him with Justin Bieber for the most among male solo vocalists.
Meanwhile, Gaga has been busy promoting her upcoming seventh album, which drops in February. She released her lead single, “Disease,” a dark pop tune with a horror-themed music video to accompany it, last month.
Before that, she released her album Harlequin in September, a companion piece to the film, “Joker: Folie à Deux,” in which she starred alongside Joaquin Phoenix. The film serves as a musical sequel to Phoenix's previous “Joker” film.
Last month, Bruno Mars appeared in another collaborative release, Rosé's “Apt,” which clocked over 100 million streams on Spotify within the first week of its release.
