The Basilica of Santa María la Mayor was the scene of a solemn Eucharist and marked the beginning of this commemoration. 150th anniversary of the birth of San Pedro PovedaEmblematic figure of Linares and founder of the Teresian Institute.

La vida de San Pedro Poveda
Pedro Poveda was born in Castroverde Linares el December 3, 1874. His holy vocation led him to develop an intense educational work, founding the Teresian Institute to promote the formation of Christian teachers committed to human and social values.
During the Spanish Civil War, he was arrested at his home in Madrid on July 27, 1936, and shot the next day near the walls of the Almudena Cemetery. His sacrifice made him a symbol of faith and compromise. It was canonized by Pope Juan Pablo II on May 4, 2003.
It was recognized by UNESCO for its contribution to education and human rights humanistic and pedagogical It coincides with the centenary of his birth in 1974.
A lasting legacy
