Doom is a particular genre and despite the perception of it being a bit of a narrow style with strict parameters, there's a lot of diversity within the subgenre. Every band has a first album and its usually one that showcases the most obvious influences while hinting at a direction a band will take things later.
Other times, bands are fully developed by the time they record their debut record, making history with its release.
